In this tutorial, we will learn how to make a simple wire portrait that will look good on your wall.
It is always fun to try out a new medium of art, isn't it? You get to learn so much in the process of building something from scratch. In this post, let us make a simple wire portrait that you can make at home with every day materials.
Material needed:
- Cardboard paper
- Pencil
- Bending wires
- Masking tape
- Scissors
- Needle
The shape
We start by choosing a very simple figure. In our case, the outline of Mickey Mouse which was also the logo for Disney channel, if you recollect. Draw it on the cardboard paper with pencil, as shown below:
Next we adjust the wire according to the shape and place it together with the help of masking tape. Cut the wire with scissors when necessary, as shown in the image.
Locking
Time to start removing the masking tape - but to do that you need to lock the wire by a thinner wire so that the shape does not fall out of place. We do this by poking tiny holes on both sides of the thicker wire.
Next we insert the thinner wire into the hole and tie a knot at the back. This will be the harder step among all. It's good to be patient here.
Repeat the process of knots at strategic points - so that the shape keeps in place. When finished, you will have something like this at the back, as shown below:
Finally
Remove the masking tape at the front and voila, the wire portrait is ready!
Last step would be to frame the whole thing in glass so that it looks nicer. You may want to upgrade to famous faces, such as Albert Einstein, Harry Potter and John Lennon.
